How overconfidence leads to disappointment?

We have frequently come across various discussions on how confidence can bring us success. However, we also need to bring attention to the disappointment overconfidence leads to. A person tends to be overconfident when he cannot estimate his capability. It’s due to the overestimation of his skills and capabilities that builds the belief that he is more capable than he is and sometimes even better than others.

When a person is confident in his abilities, he can evaluate the results of his hard work and stick to his goals. Nevertheless, when a person is overconfident, they miscalculate their capability which further leads to failures. Thus, leading to disappointment. In such circumstances, the person fails to understand the reason for his failures. He believes that he is trying his best and is proficient in everything he is striving to achieve but is left empty-handed.

However, overconfidence and hard work sometimes may go hand in hand. As overconfidence is not something that a person is born with, it is his or her achievements that lead to such phenomena. Hence, when the person achieves everything, he strives to, possibly be overconfident, and that's where they start miscalculating their abilities and think they are invincible. One should never forget that there are people who are equally capable hard-working and confident and if we missed the mark, we may not achieve what we wish to. Thus, to state that it is equally important to be self-aware is significant. Additionally, being open to feedback and critics also helps us to measure our abilities.
