Perceive your disruptions as opportunities to nurture resilience!

Imagine yourself in a state of faultless attention and suddenly the phone beeps or your kid comes to you to play or your spouse wants to seek your suggestions, would any of these annoy you?

When we have the habit to react to any disturbances with anger, stress, or irritation, it showcases how tough the zone of our working is. In such situations, we just want the world to cooperate with our mood, work, and our mental state. However, this does not work at all. We must understand to work in circumstances that cannot be very favorable all the time or do not work according to our convenience.

How do we do that?

By functioning in the soft zone. This means to roll with punches and comply with the circumstances that come our way. Irrespective of how frustrating things can be. This instills resilience when we face the disasters in life. For example-an author lost important tournament chess once because he was distracted by the music that was playing in his head. This was sufficient to shake the concentration that is required to understand the calculations during the match. Identifying this as an issue, the author started to play music whenever he practiced. Rather than running from it or blocking it, he understood the need to face it and learned to think with the rhythm of the music instead. This enhanced his confidence and he even began to sing songs in his head purposely during the matches.

We can teach kids too about cultivating mental resilience by purposely putting them in situations that could challenge their concentration. Like if they love writing, how about keeping the windows open and welcome sounds from neighbors. Challenging the brain, only makes it stronger.
