Power of Persuasion- Why is it a crucial skill that kids need to acquire?
Persuasion can be described as a process where a person’s behaviors and attitude are influenced by someone else. Persuasion enables us to argue for the opinions, actions, and decisions that can have an impact on us. Don’t you ever look at someone and think how can he convince you or someone else so easily, or how the stubborn boy of the group can be persuaded by him? The tactics of persuasion are different from any other speaking skill.
Being able to persuade someone is a special skill that many of us still strive to achieve. The history of persuasion is dated back to when the Greeks emphasized elocution and rhetoric standards to be a successful public figure. As the discussions and assembly both judged the persuasiveness of the person speaking.
Aristotle recognized the three general elements of a persuasive argument-
Ethos- to establish credibility with the audience, with your expertise, knowledge, and authority. Whichever is possessed by the speaker!
Logos- this element focuses on cognitive thinking, reason, and logic.
Pathos- these appeals to the non-cognitive, non-thinking, and emotional motivations that directly affect customs and decisions.
These elements constitute the significant elements of any Public Speaking Course. Kids need to acquire an understanding of all the elements and apply these to establish when they are speaking. Not only for public speaking but standard and efficient speaking skills, persuasion is a whole set of skills that facilitates careers prospects as well
