Self-leadership is the primary step to be a leader!
Whenever we find ourselves in a position where we have the authority to lead someone, we need to ask ourselves if we can take this responsibility. Even if the people around us think that nobody can do it better than us, we cannot take ourselves for granted just because we are chosen.
To be a self-leader means to evaluate and dissect the ideas that we tell ourselves. In today’s era where the world is hyper-social, it can be easy to structure a version of oneself that is not even real. We do this to show how positive we are but if we are not positive in our head acting to be one can create conflicts in our head that would eat us.
The apt fix for such behavior is self-awareness which can also be termed self-management.
Whenever we are thoughtful and proactive the toxicity that could harm relationships teamwork or culture is eradicated. When we are up there of what we are capable of in our head we would not need anybody’s validation even if we have to face failures because we know that we are trying our best but the time is not ours.
Being self-aware engaged and humble helps us to evaluate how we contribute to the given situation and commit to responding with the best that we have. The most important trait of a self-leader is to be responsible and accountable for their attitude mistakes and efforts. They avoid blaming and complaining and rather ask themselves what can they do to make things even better.
Therefore, teaching our kids to be self-accountable and responsible is a way of inculcating the skills of a future leader.
