Why is clarity in communication important?

When we are communicating irrespective of verbal or written we must be clear in conveying a suitable response. This does not mean that we need to use long sentences or big words. It is our choice of words purposely to make sure that the message we are trying to deliver is clear and concise.

There can be many reasons which make clarity important –

1. Clarity helps to avoid misunderstandings

2. Clarity helps us to convey to the audience that we are thinking about them

3. It helps in building trust

4. Clarity establishes a lasting impression

The purpose of clarity is to make the other person comprehend whatever we convey. If we are not clear enough, it can be misinterpreted which can lead to conflicts and misunderstandings. When people fail to convey, what they must or what is expected, it leads to conflict and frustration. It becomes immensely tough for the person who receives it to respond. For successful communication clarity is essential. But how do we communicate with clarity? There can be many ways to do so. The few are listed below –

1. Know who your audience is

2. Don’t try to use sophisticated vocabulary and make things complicated, rather keep it simple

3. Be concise and to the point rather than being redundant

4. use examples to explain

5. ask questions to your audience to eliminate any doubts

6. Be patient

Thus, to state that clarity is the most essential in communication would not be wrong. As the purpose of communication is to convey your thoughts and beliefs but if your audience fails to comprehend, the process is incomplete and then feedback is not reliable.
