Language arts or ELA is the improvement and study of language. Literature and language, which here refers to both languages and a language, are traditionally the two main disciplines in language arts.  Speaking, listening, writing (composition), and reading make up most of the language arts teaching.  

ELA courses incorporate the learning and teaching of speaking, reading, viewing, writing, and listening. It is the integration of the language arts in many ways. Firstly, instruction, assessment, and curriculum showcase the integration of speaking, reading, viewing, writing, and listening. It is perceived as a unified subject that supports learning and thinking. Secondly, it’s the integration of learning and teaching of the process and content within the prospectus. The processes, abilities, and methods of speaking, reading, viewing, writing, and listening are taught in the context of the conflicts, ideas, and themes found in literature and all other oral, written, and visual works. Thirdly, the information, skills, and methods of language arts, according to literacy educators, are incorporated across the curriculum, allowing students to think creatively and critically about problems in all subject areas.
