Why is outcome-based learning efficient?

Having a roadmap always makes goals feasible and achievable. Outcome-based learning can also be stated as motivation-driven learning. The essence of this type of learning is a set of predetermined goals and objectives that makes it easier for the child to achieve them easily. It provides the students with the power to choose “what to study?” and “how to study?”. The students can easily choose what suits them best based on their strengths and weaknesses. Also, due to its time-driven approach, outcome-based learning makes the learner more proficient and efficient in the subject matter.

Outcome-based learning is advantageous over traditional one as its more transparent with what is expected from the learner and what is suggestable to the teachers till the completion of the course. It highlights a more responsible side of the students as they become the decision-makers of what needs to be done to achieve the goal. This approach also ensures that the students know the exact curriculum that needs to be covered along with the necessary study material, guides, paperwork, projects, texts, etc. It makes the teaching process easier as well by providing the teachers with clear criteria to measure the student’s fluency and proficiency in any particular subject. The curriculum as well as the teaching process can be adapted to the student’s needs. Hence, the approach is student-centric.

It is seen that in an outcome-based learning approach, the learner’s competency is improved which leads to efficient learning as well as better results.
